Some Background Info

Just to get you up to speed as I have started this blog in the middle of a hectic period of my life.
  • I am an Electrical Engineer for a Paper and Pulp company and I am working on a Paper Machine rebuild at the moment (R1.5 billion). It is the first project of this magnitude that I have undertaken and has been a learning process of note.
  • My little family is in the process of purchasing our first home. Up to now we have been renting accommodation. The reasons we started looking were: a) the market prices for housing have increased rapidly in the last year (37% average); b) I wanted to buy a new car - so it was either a car or a house. Other than that, we were pretty happy in our flat on the Berea.

If I have to be honest, I would say that this blog is primarily for me. I am hoping that family and friends will visit. I am hoping that you will enjoy or get some edification from reading my ramblings. But, ultimately, this is an outlet for those little things that make an impression on me. I am certainly not the most interesting person to walk the Earth at the moment - but I would like to share my experiences.

I will tell you a little more about the house and our plans for it in the next post.

Bathroom Blues (sucking lemons)

We went out last weekend to look for fittings and sanitaryware for the bachelor's pad we are going to renovate in our new house. We had lunch with our good friends, Bruce and Liliana and their son, Judson. The two boys (Nicholas and Judson) are nearly the same age and entertained us by eating the lemons used as garnish on our meals.

I have never realised how expensive bathroom fittings can be. Just our preliminary research has been eye-opening. But it will be fun putting the pad together.

The First Thoughts

Looking at the blogs of others piqued my interest, so I thought it might be interesting to add my ramblings to the voices of others.

I am the proud father of my first-born daugther, Morgan, and my son, Nicholas. I am also the fortunate husband of Amanda (for the last 6 years).

Anyway, I am going to get my thoughts together and make this much more interesting.
